Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) said that Indonesia’s digital economy has shown rapid growth in less than 10 years.
Director General of Fiscal Balance of the Ministry of Finance Astera Primanto Bhakti quoted data from the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (Eria) which stated that Indonesia’s digital economy grew 414 percent in 2017 to 2021. Then, growth in 2021 to 2025 is estimated to reach 62 percent.
“In less than 10 years, Indonesia’s digital economy has developed rapidly. This shows that the digital economy has played an important role in supporting Indonesia’s economic growth and will continue to do so going forward,” said Primanto during the Seminar on Digitalization in Public Financial Management to Support Financial Sustainability in Jakarta, Wednesday.
According to Primanto, the benefits of Indonesia’s digital economy can be felt by various groups, including the Ministry of Finance. Digital transformation in the Ministry of Finance’s landscape plays a role in improving business processes and organizations that are more equitable.
In addition, digital transformation also assists in the implementation of fiscal policies to support strong economic development.
The value of Indonesia’s digital economy is projected to reach US$360 billion in 2030. The projection refers to performance in 2022, which recorded the value of Indonesia’s digital economy of USD 77 billion, growing 22 percent compared to the previous year.
With that value, Indonesia is a major player in the digital economy in the region and controls more than 40 percent of ASEAN’s share.
Seeing the potential of the digital economy in the country, the government has made various efforts to develop this ecosystem. For example, the government through the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) has initiated several programs, including Indonesian Digital Literacy, Increasing Digital Capability, the Cyber Creation Program, Digital Talent Scholarship, and the Digital Leadership Academy.
Recently, the Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi, at the G20 India Digital Economy Minister Meeting (DEMM), said that Indonesia invited G20 member countries to continue collaborating in order to realize global digital transformation. (mhn/bbs)
