Pangkalpinang, The Indonesia Post – Acting Governor of the Bangka Belitung Islands (Babel) Ridwan Djamaluddin stated that the Babel Islands Provincial Government had reported the plan to ban the export of tin metal to the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
“The metal ban plan has been conveyed to President Jokowi and the ministers,” said Ridwan Djamaluddin, after the 2023 Long-Term Study FGD with the theme “Returning tin into a strategic mineral in order to secure control of mineral assets”, in Pangkalpinang, Friday afternoon.
He said the cessation of tin metal exports had become the main and most serious study to be carried out immediately, so that Indonesia would become one of the world’s major tin players.
“This will certainly encourage national economic growth, moreover the government will make this tin a strategic commodity,” he also said.
According to him, with the stop of tin exports, of course it will show Indonesia to move up the class in the world market.
“Indonesia has upgraded from an extractive country to an industrial country, the point is not to let Indonesia be followed by other countries,” he said again.
He said the Republic of Indonesia’s National Defense Institute (Lemhannas) wanted to encourage an increase in the value of existing tin as a strategic mineral for future generations.
“When it’s called a strategic mineral, its utilization becomes strategic, so the government’s role becomes more important,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
