The Mayor of Medan said that the prices of basic commodities were relatively stable ahead of Ramadhan

Medan, The Indonesia Post – Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution said that a number of basic commodity prices in Medan, North Sumatra (North Sumatra) were still relatively stable ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, which was only a few days away.

“Food commodities are relatively stable, for example red chili and meat. However, the price of eggs has increased by up to IDR 100 per egg,” said Bobby, in Medan, Friday.

He mentioned the increase in the price of broiler eggs from IDR 1,500 to IDR 1,600/item, and rice which experienced a slight increase due to reduced supply.

He said that in general traders in the market hoped that both supply and prices of basic commodities would be stable, especially during Ramadan this year.

“The most important step we take is to fulfill supplies. But there is a famine, of course it greatly affects prices in the market,” he said again.

The Mayor revealed that the Medan City Government would increase cooperation with producing regions in North Sumatra for the increase in the price of these food commodities.

“For eggs, we cooperate with several other areas in North Sumatra. If, for example, area A has not yet harvested, we can take them from area B,” said Bobby.

The Mayor also admitted that he had talked directly with a number of traders at Sukaramai Market regarding the current price of basic commodities.

Andi, a beef trader, admits that until now the price of beef is still relatively normal and there has been no increase.

“The normal price is Rp. 130,000 per kg, there is no increase,” he said.

Siti, a horticulture trader, said that red chilies are priced at IDR 28,000/kg, and green chilies at IDR 20,000/kg.

Meanwhile, red onion is IDR 28,000/kg, and garlic is IDR 28,000/kg. “The average price is still normal, there is no increase,” he said again. (mhn/bbs)
