Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate received a visit from the British Ambassador to Indonesia, ASEAN and Timor Leste H.E Owen Jenkins, and the two then discussed cooperation regarding the construction of the Greater Indonesia Satellite 2 (SATRIA-2).
“Today I was visited by the British Ambassador to Indonesia H.E. Mr. Owen Jenkins. Following up on discussions or talks about UK Export Finance to support SATRIA-2,” Johnny said in a press release, Friday.
According to Johnny, SATRIA-2 will be built by Airbus and is Indonesia’s second High Throughput Satellite (HTS) with a capacity designed like SATRIA-1 of 150Gbps.
In the discussion, the presence of SATRIA-2 will be supported by the British Government to strengthen satellite services for Indonesia.
To welcome the plan, the Minister of Communication and Information confirmed that he would visit the UK and discuss further with Airbus and the British Government for the presence of SATRIA-2.
Furthermore, Johnny said SATRIA-2 has been included in the Green Book of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas).
“So the scheme is made possible through direct lending to the Indonesian government. For this reason, the financing documents will be discussed between UK Export Financing and the Ministry of Finance. Because this is to increase economic cooperation between Indonesia and the UK,” he explained.
Ambassador Owen Jenkins appreciated the meeting with the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G. Plate. According to him, this meeting will strengthen the cooperation between the Government of Indonesia and the British Government, especially in the information and communication technology sector.
“The British government and the Airbus company, which are supported through UK Export Financing, can assist the Indonesian government in preparing internet access needs. Through UK export finance, we are able to support the extraordinary work that the Minister of Communication and Informatics is doing to provide internet access across this amazing archipelago,” said Owen.
Ambassador Owen Jenkins welcomed the planned visit by the Minister of Communication and Informatics Johnny G. Plate to England.
Minister Johnny is scheduled to attend the Global System for Communication Association International Communication Union Congress (GSMA ITU Congress). In addition, the Minister of Communication and Informatics also made work visits to Spain and France.
