Indonesian National Police use “face recognition” technology in securing the G20 Summit

Denpasar, The Indonesia Post – The Indonesian National Police uses facial recognition technology or face recognition to support security at the summit of the G20 Summit in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali, on November 15-16, 2022.

Deputy Chief of the National Police Commissioner General of Police Gatot Eddy Pramono told reporters in Denpasar, Bali, Friday, saying the use of facial recognition technology to monitor the movements of suspected people or people on the wanted list (DPO) so that the police can take immediate action.

Face recognition is a technology that works to gradually identify a person with accurate and detailed analysis using 2D or 3D imaging technology. Through the camera, this tool functions to retrieve some data in the form of face shape, eyes, nose, and so on to be converted into digital data or information and later will be adjusted with other facial data in the database.

“This Command Center also uses facial recognition so that if there is a DPO that we suspect at points that we have anticipated, we can take what steps we take according to the prepared way of acting,” said the Deputy Chief of Police when reviewing the Bali Police Command Center. .

The Deputy Chief of Police said that for three days, the National Police carried out simulation exercises and stabilization of the Pre-Operation Puri Agung 2022 in strategic locations passed by the delegates, including in Badung in preparation for potential disturbances.

“Earlier we immediately saw the simulation through the Command Center and from there we could control everything. Through the Command Center, we could see the plotting of members, existing facilities and infrastructure,” said Eddy Pramono who was accompanied by the Commander of the Brimob Police Corps Komjen Police Anang Revandoko, Asops The National Police Inspector General of Police Agung Setya Imam Effendi, and the Head of the Public Relations Division of the Police Inspector General of Police Dedi Prasetyo.

He added that the National Police will continue to evaluate ongoing exercises and will correct any deficiencies that still exist. The exercise is still being carried out until Saturday (5/11) while fixing the shortcomings so that on the peak day everything can run optimally.

Eddy Pramono said that the National Police also conducted tactical floor game exercises and tactical digital games like metaverse. This is done so that the security plan that has been prepared can run smoothly as expected, starting from the preparation before, during the peak day and after the activity.

“That’s what we do through these trainings,” he said.

In addition, the National Police has prepared traffic engineering at the peak of the G20 Summit on November 15-16.

“It (traffic engineering) has been prepared by Opspam along with the traffic line. There is even a circular letter that we will socialize continuously so that the public can understand that when the group passes there are road alternatives that have been provided, diversions so as not to cause traffic jams,” he said.

In line with that, the Bali Police Traffic Directorate and the Bali Provincial Transportation Service have also informed the implementation of social mobility restrictions with an odd-even scheme from 11 to 17 November 2022.

The road sections that will be implemented are odd-even, including the Pesanggaran Intersection-Sanur Intersection, the Kuta-Sanur Interchange, the Kuta-Tugu Ngurah Rai Interchange, the Ngurah Rai Monument-Nusa Dua, to the Udayana Campus.

In addition, the Korlantas Polri has also prepared additional electronic ticketing cameras on Jalan Iman Bonjol, Denpasar – Sunset Road, Kuta and access to the Bali Mandara Toll Road. (mhn/bbs)
