Medan, The Indonesia Post – Medan City Legislative Council (DPRD) member Afif Abdillah said the 2024 presidential candidate promoted by the National Democratic (NasDem) Party, Anies Baswedan, would be accepted in Malay custom at the Maimun Palace in Medan, North Sumatra, Friday (4/11).
“Pak Anies Baswedan will enter the Maimun Palace wearing traditional clothes and will be accepted by the senior officials of the Deli Sultanate,” Afif explained in Medan, Thursday.
This, he continued, after the former governor of DKI Jakarta arrived at Kualanamu International Airport, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, accompanied by member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission I Prananda Surya Paloh in the morning.
They started Friday prayers together with the people of Medan City at the Al-Mahsun Grand Mosque which is a relic of the glory of the Deli Sultanate.
After Friday prayers, Anies then kept in touch with the ulama at a hotel opposite the Al-Mahsun Grand Mosque which was built in 1906 during the reign of Sultan Ma’mun Alrasyid Perkasa Alam.
Anies Baswedan held a grand national friendship with the people of North Sumatra at the Maimun Palace which was scheduled at 14.30 WIB.
“Later, Pak Anies will be accepted by the high-ranking officials of the Deli Sultanate in the Maimun Palace. Not receiving a title, but according to court customs,” Afif explained.
He said that in the evening Anies Baswedan would stay in touch with inter-ethnic and religious leaders at the North Sumatra NasDem Party DPW Office.
“Community leaders and youth from various ethnic and religious backgrounds will attend,” said Afif, who is also the chairman of the NasDem Party faction at the Medan City DPRD. (mhn/bbs)
