Bali, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Chinese President Xi Jinping witnessed the operational trial of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train on the sidelines of their bilateral meeting, following the holding of the G20 Indonesia Summit, in Bali, Wednesday.
As witnessed through the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube live broadcast in Bali, Wednesday, on that occasion the two leaders watched the operational trial of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train, from Tegal Luar Station, Bandung to Jakarta.
The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Panjaitan reported that the progress of the construction of the high-speed train has now reached 80.40 percent. He and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) continue to coordinate well to ensure the completion of the project by the middle of next year.
“This has to happen and can’t go back. It is my personal determination to get this done. The Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail project is one of the main projects of the Global Maritime Fulcrum and Belt and Road Initiative, which has become a landmark of cooperation between Indonesia and China.
Therefore, the Indonesian government is committed to providing full support for the completion of this project, both in the form of policy and financial support in accordance with the provisions of Indonesian regulations.
Luhut conveyed that the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail project has become a stepping stone for cooperation projects between Indonesia and China, such as a number of industrial estates in Indonesia and several other cooperation projects that will have a very significant impact on development in Indonesia.
“We hope that President Xi Jinping can attend the inauguration of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed rail operation in the middle of next year together with President Joko Widodo,” said Luhut. (mhn/bbs)
