Narcotics Artist

Thailand, The Indonesia Post – Former Thai teen beauty queen artist Amelia Jacobs has to be ready to wear for a long time behind bars.

Last weekend, he was just sentenced to 33 years and four months in prison by the Min Buri Provincial Court of Thailand. He was also sentenced to a fine of 666,666 baht or around Rp. 312 million. Decisions are issued in the absence or presence of the defendant. The beautiful woman was reported to have fled to Dubai in August last year. And so far not caught.

The career of a woman who is intimately called “Amy” started in 2006. When she was crowned Miss Teenage Thailand, then she started her career in television. She got the main role in Channel TV 7’s drama ‘Thida Wanorn’ or ‘Monkey Daughter’. However, in September 2017 everything changed. He was suddenly fired after being arrested for a narcotics case.

Citing Bangkokpost, Amy was arrested on 19 September 2017 at a house in the Sai Mai district, Bangkok. She was arrested with a man Poonyawat Hirantecha (41), who is known to be a manager and her boyfriend. At that time the police confiscated 70 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 16 ecstasy pills and a scale.

After the arrest, the lover was sentenced to 25 years and four months in prison and a fine of 750 thousand baht (around Rp.351 million).

Meanwhile Amy was sentenced to three months in prison. Two years’ pay, and a fine of 5,000 baht. The examiner said that Amy was undergoing a rehabilitation program and became a nun. After undergoing, he was free. And in August last year, he was not known to have flown to Dubai, UAE.

But on Thursday (20/8), the Court of Appeal banned and sentenced Amy to life imprisonment and a fine of 1 million baht for drug trial. But then, the court sentenced him to imprisonment and a fine of 33 years and four months and a fine of 666,666.67 baht.

“The investigation revealed that Amelia left Thailand for Dubai via Suvarnabhumi Airport on August 22, 2019, using flight EK 0385,” said deputy head of the Immigration Bureau, Maj. Gen. Chuchat Thareechat Police quoted from Bangkokpost.

“Immigration officials did not arrest him because at that time there was no arrest order. Until now there is no record of him returning,” he added.

Currently the Thai court has issued an arrest warrant for Amy. And it is likely that he will also be included in the list of Interpol red notices.

The court’s verdict on Amy was very firm. The decision that was released was based on the Narcotics Act of Thailand (Thai Narcotics Act B.E.2522 (1979)). The law is actually almost similar to Indonesia’s Law No. 35/2009.

In Law No. 35 of 2009, imprisonment for narcotics cases is a minimum of 1 year and the longest is life and death. The punishment shall be a minimum fine of one million rupiah and a maximum of twenty billion rupiah.

Meanwhile, in Thailand’s Narcotics Law, the minimum prison term is 1 month and the longest is life and death. Meanwhile, a minimum fine of two thousand baths or around 700 thousand rupiah and a maximum of five million baths or one billion seven hundred and fifty million rupiah.

Perhaps what makes the difference is that so far no Indonesian artist has been given a verdict as heavy as the verdict given to Amy. Most of the artists in Indonesia who are caught in narcotics only undergo rehabilitation.

Or also, because most Indonesian artists who are involved in drugs are only limited to users. Not as a dealer. As was accused to Amy. Hopefully none of our artists will be subject to a ban as severe or heavier than Amy. (imf/bbs)
