Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno said the government would maximally prepare for the 2022 MotoGP event at the Mandalika Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia which is certain to have a major impact on the tourism sector and the creative economy (parekraf).
Based on the direction of President Joko Widodo, he continued, this international event must be successful and there is no room for mistakes.
“We will carry out thorough preparations and HR (Human Resources) training,” said Sandiaga after visiting the Paddock area (garage for each racer team) at the Mandalika Circuit, as stated in a press statement, in Jakarta, Wednesday.
Sandiaga asked the parekraf stakeholders to immediately coordinate, synchronize, and harmonize to take advantage of MotoGP’s momentum in order to create jobs.
Furthermore, he wants the local community to benefit from the premier class motorcycle championship event.
In his review at the Mandalika Circuit, Menparekraf evaluated several issues that needed to be resolved. Such as infrastructure within the circuit, accommodation readiness, pre-event (activities during preparation for the main event), to the promotion of tourism products and the creative economy as an effort to support the success of the MotoGP event.
“Essentially, we want to ensure some preparations are our duty, and we will be present to prepare them firmly. We have 65 days left and our homework (PR) is very heavy,” he said.
Several other notes disclosed by Menparekraf Sandiaga, among others, related to the lighting and water system which will be handled by the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) as the developer and manager of the tourist destination complex in the Mandalika area.
Sandiaga also invites the community and dog lovers to get involved with the local government in finding solutions to the presence of stray dogs around the area.
“There are several dogs that have been hit and it is feared that an accident will occur and be fatal for the drivers (racing) if they try to avoid these dogs. We want this MotoGP to be successful and the slightest problem is handled with a wise approach,” he said.
The 2022 Indonesian MotoGP event, which will be held on March 18-20, is predicted to be attended by 100,000 domestic and international tourists.
Regarding accommodation, his party will first ensure the number of spectators that have been verified to be adjusted to the level of room availability.
“Later, as an alternative, it can be directed to homestays (residential houses), cabins or glamping (stayed in tents with luxurious facilities, to cruises (floating hotels on cruise ships) and also local community involvement. In addition, there are also shuttle flights from Bali or Surabaya, (and) Banyuwangi which can be used as an alternative,” said Sandiaga. (mhn/bbs)
