Palembang, The Indonesia Post – One of the Multaqa Ulama participants at the Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School, Jombang, East Java on behalf of Abdullah Romli from the Bangkalan Islamic Boarding School asked Habib Umar bin Muhammad bin Salim bin Hafidz about scholars who often visit the government or officials. The essence of the question is whether such a scholar is then categorized as a su’ulama?
Habib Umar bin Hafidz, as he is often called, replied that scholars who came to officials for advice could not be said to have degraded knowledge. He is also not classified as a scholar su’. Moreover, the very important role of a cleric is to convey advice, including the government.
“It doesn’t mean that the person giving advice to the leader actually despised knowledge, it’s not like that. Or the person who came to the official to advise him, oh this is a su’ulama. No!”.
In Habib Umar’s view, the relationship between the clergy and officials or the government could carry out a noble mission. Such as ensuring that the people or the people can feel the value of the benefits of the policies made by the government. Another thing, for example, the clergy can bridge the security of the state as well as the people under their rule so that they truly feel calm. Or something else for the benefit of the country and its people.
“It doesn’t mean that everyone who has cooperation with certain leaders, with certain officials to provide advice provides benefits to the community or also provides security for the country or prevents tyranny in the midst of society. So, that does not mean being a su’ulama, he came sometimes to give advice or to help people in trouble,”.
During the arrival of the clergy to an official do not pledge disobedience. Even so, if you do not pledge to laws that are contrary to the laws of Allah SWT and do not support these laws, then the ulama are not classified as su’ulama.
On the other hand, scholars who cooperate with officials, actually support the occurrence of immorality and crime between the two or in the midst of society, it is included in the provisions of the su’ ulama. Either he went to the official directly, or not.
That Islam has prohibited its followers from cooperating in disobedience and misused laws. “Therefore, the pleasure of the law that is contrary to the law of Allah SWT is something that is forbidden in religion”. (ust/fhn)
