Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno assessed that the prestigious MotoGP motorbike racing event held at the Mandalika Circuit was synonymous with Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Sandiaga said that the public had been looking forward to President Jokowi’s presence at the 15th MotoGP series, at the Mandalika Circuit, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on Sunday, October 15.
“We hope for his presence because this is his initiation. MotoGP is identical, Mandalika MotoGP is synonymous with Pak Jokowi, so of course the public also hopes for his presence,” said Sandiaga when met at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Monday.
Sandiaga explained that President Jokowi had asked about Indonesia’s readiness to hold the 15th MotoGP series in 2023, which leaves six series remaining, including at the Mandalika Circuit.
So far, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has prepared accommodation for up to 16 thousand rooms and additional homestays in tourist villages around Mandalika, including accommodation villas.
Sandiaga admitted that he had officially invited President Jokowi to attend, because it would be watched by more than 600 million viewers worldwide via the live TV broadcast network.
According to Sandiaga, the audience will be very enthusiastic, because the distance between Francesco Bagnaia who occupies the top position in the standings is only a few points apart from Jorge Martin who is in second place.
“We hope the weather will also be good, hopefully this will be a very interesting race and attract visitors above the target and very enthusiastic spectators, because the difference in points between first and second place is that Pecco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin are quite close,” he said anyway.
Meanwhile, Francesco (Pecco) Bagnaia, who leads the standings, has collected 319 points, while Jorge Martin, who is in second place in the standings, is only three points behind, namely 316 points. (mhn/bbs)
