Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – China’s northwestern Shaanxi Province on Wednesday (30/3) dispatched its first cargo train to the Laotian capital, Vientiane, via the China-Laos Railway.
Carrying 630 tonnes of condiments worth nearly US$1 million (US$1 = Rp14,357), the train departed from Baoji City and will exit China via Mohan Port in southwest China’s Yunnan Province. The entire journey will take seven days, according to China Railway Xi’an Group Co., Ltd.
“Our company used to trade with many ASEAN countries, mainly through rail-sea transportation. However, facing the COVID-19 outbreak, it is difficult to guarantee on-time delivery and safety of cargo transportation,” said Liu Haitao, deputy general manager of cargo supplier at Baoji.
“With international cargo trains operating on the China-Laos Railway, goods can be sent to Vientiane quickly and conveniently following a unified customs declaration and acceptance process in the Baoji comprehensive bound zone,” Liu said.
This will effectively help enterprises to accurately connect with ASEAN international markets and achieve high-quality development, Liu added.
Apples, kiwifruit and other agricultural products from Shaanxi, as well as tropical fruits from Southeast Asia, will also be transported via the international cargo rail line.
The China-Laos Railway, which started operating on December 3, 2021, spans more than 1,000 km. This rail line connects Kunming, the capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province, with the Lao capital of Vientiane.
Many provinces and cities launched international cargo trains to Laos via the China-Laos Railway, and the categories of goods have expanded, from rubber and fertilizers to electronics, cars, flowers, and others. (mhn/bbs)
