The Indonesia Post – Raw materials for the production of the Covid-19 vaccine returned to Indonesia on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. This time, the government brought in as many as 10 million doses of vaccine raw materials from the Sinovac company which arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, at around 10.15 WIB.
“Alhamdulillah, today, February 2, 2021, Indonesia has received 10 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine raw materials from Sinovac with an additional 1 million doses of overfill,” said Bio Farma’s Covid-19 Vaccination Spokesperson, Bambang Heriyanto.
To note, the additional one million doses of overfill is an extra volume given by the Sinovac company to anticipate the production process that will be carried out by Bio Farma.
The Sinovac vaccine is currently used by Indonesia in the early stages of vaccination and is one of the Covid-19 vaccines in the free mass vaccination program for 181.5 million Indonesians. In this first stage, the government prioritizes health workers for the first time to get the vaccine.
President Joko Widodo himself received two doses of vaccine injections respectively on January 13 and 27, 2021 to prove that the use of the vaccine has gone through a number of clinical trials and is safe to give to the public.
The Covid-19 vaccine produced by Sinovac has previously received an emergency use permit from the Food and Drug Administration (BPOM). The vaccine has also obtained a halal fatwa from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
In the future, the raw materials for these vaccines will be further produced by Bio Farma into ready-to-use vaccines which will also be used in the free mass vaccination program for 181.5 million Indonesians.
“All raw materials for these vaccines, after being processed into finished products, first have to go through a series of stringent quality tests conducted by the Bio Farma laboratory and BPOM to ensure that the vaccines we produce meet the quality and quality standards that have been set,” said Bambang.
The arrival of 10 million doses of vaccine raw material is the fourth arrival after the government brought in 1.2 million and 1.8 million doses of ready-to-use vaccine. On the third visit, the government also obtained 15 million doses of vaccine raw materials which will then be processed by the state-owned pharmaceutical company Bio Farma.
Present to witness the arrival of the vaccine included Secretary-General of the Ministry of Health Oscar Primadi, Spokesperson for Vaccination from the Ministry of Health Siti Nadia Tarmizi, and Spokesperson for Covid-19 Vaccination from PT Bio Farma Bambang Heriyanto. (mhn/bbs)
