The House of Representatives approved the Ministry of Defense to sell 2 Indonesian warships

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives approved the Ministry of Defense’s plan to sell two Indonesian warships, namely KRI Teluk Turtle 513 and KRI Teluk Mandar 514.

The approval for the sale of the two warships came after Commission I of the DPR held a working meeting with the Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto, Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani and the Chief of Naval Staff (KSAL) Admiral TNI Yudo Margono, at the Parliament Building, Jakarta, Thursday.

“After listening to the explanation from Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, it decided to approve the proposed sale of KRI Teluk Bandar 514 and KRI Teluk Turtle 513 to the Ministry of Defense in accordance with the Presidential Decree regarding the application for approval of the sale of state property in the form of ships KRI Teluk Mandar 514 and KRI Teluk Turtle 513 to the Ministry of Defense and carried out in accordance with with the applicable laws and regulations,” said Chairman of Commission I DPR Meutya Hafid.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto said he was happy to get support from the members of the council to sell the two warships that were no longer suitable for use.

“We feel really extraordinary political support. Then we also have to report that the Minister of Finance and the Ministry of Finance have also helped and have supported this plan. So indeed we have to admit that our Minister of Finance is very prudent, very careful,” said Prabowo.

According to him, the two Indonesian warships (KRI) Teluk Turtle 513 and Teluk Mandar 514 are too old to be used by the Indonesian Navy. Both ships were made in Korea in 1980.

The former Danjen Kopassus said that the results of the research conducted by the Navy found that KRI Teluk Turtle 513 and KRI Teluk Mandar 514 were no longer suitable for operation because many pipes were porous.

In fact, the condition of the machinery, electricity and navigation equipment of the two ships could no longer be used, so the damage was not efficient enough to be repaired.

The estimated value of the selling or auction limit of KRI Teluk Turtle 513 is Rp.4.91 billion with an acquisition value of Rp.121.03 billion.

Meanwhile, KRI Teluk Mandar 514 has a selling or auction limit of IDR 695 million with an acquisition value of IDR 121.90 billion.

“By underlining that the condition of KRI Teluk Turtle 513 and KRI Teluk Mandar 514 was heavily damaged and this removal does not interfere with the main tasks and functions of the Indonesian Navy,” Prabowo said. (mhn/bbs)
