South Sumatra Governor Opens 2025 National Defense Taekwondo Championship for Defense Minister’s Cup

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Governor of South Sumatra, H. Herman Deru, officially opened the 2025 National Defense Taekwondo Championship for the Defense Minister’s Cup at Ranau Hall, Jakabaring Sport City, Palembang, on Saturday (July 26, 2025).

Chairwoman of the South Sumatra Taekwondo Provincial Board (Pengprov), Meilinda HZ., reported that the championship is being attended by around 2,100 participants from various provinces, including South Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu, and Riau. The athletes are competing for the 2025 Defense Minister’s Cup.

“We are very grateful to the Governor for his direct support of this event. This reflects his strong commitment to advancing Taekwondo athletes’ achievements in South Sumatra,” she said.

Governor Herman Deru welcomed the championship as not only a competition for achievement but also a platform to improve the quality of Taekwondo athletes, particularly in the Sumatra region. He emphasized that the event is an important step in discovering the best athletes who will later represent their regions at the regional and national levels. He also praised the enthusiasm of young athletes who eagerly joined the tournament.

“I hope Taekwondo can be developed down to the sub-district and village levels, so that outstanding local talents can be discovered,” Governor Deru added.

Furthermore, the Governor highlighted the crucial role of the younger generation in realizing the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045.

“The young people present here will one day carry the baton in leading the development of South Sumatra and Indonesia,” he said. (mhn/ril)
