Thousands of South Sumatrans Travel Home for Free, Deputy Governor Cik Ujang Sees Off Travelers from Kertapati

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – A moving and joyful atmosphere marked the departure of the 2026 Free Eid Homecoming program by train, organized by the South Sumatra Provincial Government, at Kertapati Station on Tuesday (March 17, 2026). South Sumatra Deputy Governor H. Cik Ujang personally saw off the travelers, who would be returning to their hometowns to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with their beloved families.

In his remarks, Cik Ujang said that this free homecoming program is a form of concern from the South Sumatra Provincial Government for the community so that they can return home safely, comfortably, and happily.

He said that this program is an annual agenda implemented by the South Sumatra Provincial Government in collaboration with Bank Sumsel Babel (BSB) and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI).

“Today, we are sending off 1,248 travelers to Lubuk Linggau for two days. In addition, 1,664 people are leaving Palembang for Tanjung Karang. Overall, the free homecoming program, which took place on March 16-17, attracted approximately 2,912 people,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the South Sumatra Transportation Agency, Musni Wijaya, in his report said that in addition to trains, the South Sumatra Provincial Government is also preparing a free homecoming service using buses, namely 15 buses for inter-district/city routes and 12 buses for inter-provincial routes.

Musni added that this year there is an estimated increase in the number of homecoming travelers of around 4 percent compared to the previous year.

On this occasion, the Deputy Governor of South Sumatra also handed over gifts to the homecoming travelers as a form of attention and support for the people who would return to their hometowns.
