Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – PT Len Industry began producing emergency ventilators. At present, there are 10 ventilator units produced for clinical trials in hospitals.
After passing clinical trials, respiratory aids that use local components and designs from the Technology Assessment and Application Agency (BPPT) and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) can be mass-produced immediately.
Sentot Industrial Engineering Business Unit Manager Rakhmad Abdi explained that BPPT ventilators are currently certified by the Health Facilities Safety Agency (BPFK).
“Emergency design ventilator from BPPT is targeted to be produced by 600 units. As many as 300 units by Len, 300 units are private but use their own designs,” Sentot said, Wednesday (5/13) quoted from CNNIndonesia.com.
PT Len’s industrial production capacity per day can reach 50 ventilator units depending on component availability.
Sentot revealed that the domestically made medical devices use 100 percent local ingredients, none of which are imported. The existence of ventilator production does not change the line production at Len, because basically production at Len is flexible.
“For now, the prices of the two ventilators, both from BPPT and ITB have not been officially set, because the products made there are still adding features and ITB ventilators are still intended for donation purposes,” Sentot said.
In addition, Sentot also revealed that his party developed the Controlled Ventury Base CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) which helps accelerate healing of stage two Covid-19 patients through the process of maintaining consistency of oxygenation levels in the patient’s hemoglobin.
“For the ITB ventilator, the target is completed by Len by 300 units and its production capacity reaches 50 units per day. Currently, it is pursuing production for donations,” he said.
Other companies participating in the production, namely PT MRB and PT Dirgantara Indonesia (DI). A total of 300 units were undertaken by PT DI and PT MRB.
The several ventilator components are made by ITB. At present, the component assembly activities are carried out by Vocational Schools, Manufacturing Polytechnic (Polman) Bandung, and Bandung State Polytechnic (Polban).
Regarding after-sales, Sentot said that it was still being discussed with related parties.
“After-sale is the same as the initial door with PT RII, a subsidiary of ITB as the brand holder. Whether later handled by RII itself or Len can be further regulated,” he said.
While after-sales for goods produced by Len and BPPT will be Len’s responsibility. “We are ready to support because we already know the details of BPPT design,” he said.
There are two types of ventilators, namely invasive and non-invasive. An invasive ventilator is a breathing apparatus that controls the overall breathing of the patient caused by the patient in an emergency condition.
While non-invasive ventilators are used for patients who are still conscious and able to regulate their own breathing even in conditions of shortness of breath.
For COVID-19 patients, symptoms will usually be encountered by patients with difficulty breathing, so in this condition, patients can be helped by CPAP or non-invasive ventilators to help the lungs work to avoid dysfunction. (ojan/bbs)
