Jokowi inaugurates the operation of the Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the operation of the Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train (KCJB), named Whoosh, as the first high-speed train service in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.

“By saying bismillahirahmanirahim, the Jakarta Bandung Fast Train Whoosh, I declare it is operational,” said President Jokowi during the inauguration at KCJB Halim Station, Jakarta, Monday.

Jokowi said Whoosh stands for Saving Time, Optimal Operation, Great System.

On that occasion, the official fare for the KCJB trip has not been announced, but Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan confirmed that Whoosh travel costs are still free until mid-October 2023.

“Until mid-October, operations remain free,” he said.

The inauguration activity took place at 09.00 WIB at Platforms 3 & 4 on the 3rd floor of KCJB Halim Station which was marked by the President pressing the siren button.

After the inauguration, President Jokowi accompanied by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo and his entourage departed for Tegalluar Station, Bandung Regency, using the Whoosh series number G3501 on platform 3.

Also accompanying the President were Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, BUMN Minister Erick Thohir, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono, and Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin.

Meanwhile, the Whoosh launch agenda at Halim Station was also attended by a number of representatives from PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) as the KCJB development consortium.

Whoosh has an operational speed of up to 350 km/h which connects Tegalluar in Bandung, West Java with Halim in East Jakarta.

With a headway of 20-30 minutes, KCJB provides many travel time options so that the distance from Jakarta to Bandung will be covered in 36 to 44 minutes.

The Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train features a spacious and modern design and has three classes with a total capacity of up to 601 passengers, along with a special room for the disabled.

The Fast Train Station carries the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) concept to ensure an integrated service system with various choices of transportation modes, various culinary delights, facilities and other privileges. (mhn/bbs)
