Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian President Joko Widodo inaugurated four infrastructure projects with a total construction cost of IDR 1.26 trillion to prevent flooding and break down traffic jams in the City and Regency of Bandung, West Java.
“Today afternoon, we will inaugurate what is called a retention pond to control floods,” President Jokowi said at the Andir Retention Pond in Bandung Regency, West Java, Sunday.
Jokowi explained that floods often occur in Bandung after heavy rains. Because of this, the central government built three flood control infrastructures namely the floodway or Cisankuy Sodetan, Cieunteung Retention Pond, and Andir Retention Pond.
The government, said Jokowi, has disbursed a budget of IDR 632 billion for the Cisangkuy Sodetan, then IDR 204 billion for the Cieunteung Retention Pool, and IDR 142 billion for the Andir Retention Pool.
Meanwhile, to expedite traffic and unravel congestion in the city of Bandung, the government has built a Kopo flyover worth IDR 288 billion.
“The total that has been built by the Central Government in Bandung City and Bandung Regency is IDR 1.26 trillion,” said President Jokowi.
Also attending the inauguration were Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, members of the Indonesian Parliament, and other relevant officials.
Quoting data from the West Java Provincial Government’s official website, flood control infrastructure such as the Cisangkuy Sodetan, the Cieunteung Retention Pond, and the Andir Retention Pond were built to reduce the overflow inundation of the Citarum River in the southern part of Bandung Regency.
Meanwhile, based on data from the PUPR Ministry, the Kopo flyover has a length of 1.3 kilometers and stretches on Jalan Soekarno-Hatta in the Kopo area, which is the main route for commuters for the Cimahi-Bandung area and connects Bandung City and Bandung Regency. (mhn/bbs)
