Care for the Elderly, Feby Deru Distributes Hundreds of Aid Packages to the Four Nursing Homes

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Still in the National Elderly Day commemoration series which is commemorated every May 29, a form of concern and attention to the elderly was again shown by the Chairman of the family welfare empowerment (PKK) South Sumatra Feby Deru together with the Deputy Chairman of the PKK Ekowati Retnaningsih and the South Sumatra PKK  team by distributing 180 aid packages to the elderly in four social institutions/nursing homes in the city of Palembang.

The four social institutions are the Harapan Kita Elderly Social Institution in KM 5 receiving 60 packages, then the Kesuma Seniors Social Welfare Institution in Talang Kelapa, Alang-Alang Lebar received 20 packages. As for the Matahari Sukamaju Elderly Institution, Sako, in addition to receiving 50 packages for the elderly, assistance was also provided for orphans, each handed over directly by the Chairperson of the PKK South Sumatra Feby Deru. As for the Sriwijaya Bersatu Social Welfare Institution in Kalidoni, as many as 50 aid packages were given by the Deputy Chairman of the PKK Sumowati Retnaningsih who is also the Chairperson of the South Sumatra Balitbangda.

South Sumatra TP PKK  Chairman Feby Deru revealed that the elderly were the top priority for aid package recipients, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic because they were susceptible to corona exposure. “The aid packages that we provide have 180 packages in the form of the Al-Quran, masks, biscuits, milk, sarong, and t-shirts. This assistance may not in huge amounts. But we hope that this can be useful for them,” she explained after giving the aid package in Harapan Kita Elderly Social Home, Thursday (6/18).

The social activity of distributing aid packages during the COVID-19 pandemic period, continued Feby, continued the South Sumatra PKK by targeting beneficiary communities such as the elderly. “This is also a sign of our love for them by going directly to the elderly. Later in time, we will all become elderly like them,” she concluded.

Meanwhile Head of the South Sumatra Social Service Mirwansyah said social institutions specifically for the elderly and their management were under the auspices of the South Sumatra Social Service there were four, scattered in several South Sumatran regions such as Palembang located in KM 5, Ogan Ilir, Lubuk Linggau, and Musi Rawas. Meanwhile, there are 8 special senior social institutions managed by the private sector.

“At the Harapan Kita senior social institution, there are 60 elderly people. Of course, we extend our unlimited appreciation to the Chairman of the PKK South Sumatra  Feby Deru for their attention and concern for the elderly who are in the fostered of the Social Affairs of South Sumatra”, he said.

Grandma Evi, one of the elderly women living in an elderly social care home in Harapan Kita, was unable to withstand the emotion and happiness of the visit of the Chairman of the PKK South Sumatra Feby Deru. “Didn’t expect and thought that the Governor’s wife would come to see us here. It was great to be able to meet directly and we could convey whatever we wanted, like eating fish cake (pempek) and fruits,” she said, sparkling. (jekk/bbs)
