PALEMBANG, The Indonesia Post – Everyday is Monday. The slogan is now attached to the figure of the Governor of South Sumatra H Herman Deru. How could he not, when he was working to lead South Sumatra, he almost never took a day off.
This pattern was actually a practice he did when he was Regent of East OKU. At that time, because he often worked and went to the field, HD was often referred to as the Regent of 25 alias the Regent who only had an office for two days and the remaining five days went directly to meet the community.
This habit continued when he served as Governor of South Sumatra. Every week he regularly makes work visits to various districts and cities to remote areas in South Sumatra to see first hand the condition of the area.
Various activities are carried out, starting from the main harvest with the community, absorbing people’s aspirations, reviewing the feasibility of infrastructure both roads and bridges, to disseminating health protocols during the Covid-19 pandemic. HD did this to show that the government under his leadership was always there for the people.
“Every day is Monday. It means we have to be there for the community in any situation, including on holidays,” said HD on one occasion.
Even in every working visit to regencies and cities, HD often brings related ranks ranging from TGUPP Staff, Expert Staff, Assistants, to the Head of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) in the South Sumatra Provincial Government. He brought them all to the field to see first hand the needs of the community. HD accustoms its ranks to not only working behind the table, but working for real seeing real conditions in the field.
“I bring the head of the OPD so that they can see first hand the conditions in the region. Like the Head of the Public Works Service, the Health Office, the Transportation Agency. Why? Because I want a breakthrough so that South Sumatra is progressing with equitable development,” he said.
Since the beginning of his leadership, HD has often made visits to the regions. It is known that it has become his commitment. Sometimes the tight schedule from one area to another plus the size of the area and the long distance traveled make HD have to use air routes to reach these areas so that they can be visited one by one.
“This community needs attention from the government. All villages in South Sumatra must feel progress,” he explained. (nfl/ril)
