Herman Deru: Three Dam is Served, Will Strengthen South Sumatra’s Food Barn

MUARADUA, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor H Herman Deru believes that the construction of the Tiga Dihaji dam in Sukabumi Village, Tiga Dihaji District, South OKU Regency, will bring great benefits to the agricultural sector in South Sumatra.

Where the Tiga Dihaji Dam, which will be the only dam in South Sumatra, will function as a multi-purpose dam to flow new irrigation areas covering 25,423 hectares.

“This is a national strategic project. Of course this development is good news for our agriculture. Because, at this time we are consistent in increasing agricultural production, especially rice. This dam will be able to supply water constantly to various districts where agricultural land is available,” said HD while conducting his research. monitoring and reviewing the construction of the Tiga Dihaji dam in Sukabumi Village, Tiga Dihaji District, South OKU Regency, Tuesday (13/10).

He said, the construction of this dam was one of the answers to the complaints of farmers regarding irrigation for agricultural land.

“This is the answer to the wishes of the farmers. This dam will also irrigate 15 thousand hectares of new paddy fields. But we must continue to work together. The efforts to increase agricultural output must not stop. One of them is about controlling prices. Production must remain stable so that prices selling did not decrease, “he said.

According to him, the dam will be able to accommodate at least 105 million cubic meters of water.

“We are committed to increasing agricultural products and targeting to be number one as a food storage area. All parties also agreed to return South Sumatra to become a national food storage area,” he said.

Furthermore, he said, the project worth more than Rp. 3 trillion should also have great benefits for other sectors. Among them are fisheries, PDAM raw water, electrical energy sources, to tourism.

“Of course this could be a new tour in South OKU. We will also propose a new 7 KM access road that connects this dam to Lake Ranau. So that this place can later become an alternative tourist area,” he explained.

On the other hand, he also advised the contractor to involve the community as much as possible in the project.

“This development also brings benefits to the community. Job opportunities are open and I hope to continue to involve the community. I also hope that the security forces, village officials will continue to maintain the safety of workers and pay attention to work safety,” he added.

Head of Sumatra River Basin VIII, Birendrajana, said the dam project was still in progress.

“Hopefully in 2023 or 2024 it will be completed and ready to be utilized. What is certain is that the community supports the construction of this dam,” he explained.

He also expressed his appreciation to Herman Deru who also supported this development.

“In the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak, the governor still took the time to review this project. Of course it is a very valuable support for us,” he concluded. (jekk/hms)
