This commitment was made by Feby Deru to help increase the economic productivity of the craftsmen and MSME players, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic which resulted in an economic downturn.
After previously promoting jumputan, blongsong, and angkinan, now Feby Deru is promoting the Kawai Kanduk cloth typical of South OKU Regency to become a regional superior product.
“This kawai kanduk cloth is a typical South OKU cloth. I really want to raise and promote this typical kawai kanduk cloth to become a superior product,” she said.

In that place, Feby Deru witnessed the process of making kawai kanduk, starting from forming a pattern, embroidering gold threads, weaving, to embroidering and producing beautiful and beautiful kawai kanduk fabrics.
Feby revealed that she witnessed directly the kawai kanduk craftsmen center not without reason but as a form of moral support for the craftsmen to keep their ancestral heritage so that they would not be swallowed up by the times.
“We need to protect this kawai kanduk cloth. Beautiful fabrics with various motifs and patterns such as various leaves, swallows, peacocks, doves, there are also those that characterize the 9 tribes in South OKU Regency which indicates that the kawai kanduk cloth really belongs to this area. , “she explained.
From her review, Feby admitted to knowing the obstacles that had been faced by craftsmen. Therefore, the South Sumatra Dekranasda immediately attempted to provide assistance facilities in the form of procurement of raw materials for cloth and gold thread for craftsmen.
The coach of the Kanduk kawai craftsman, Isyana Loneta Popo Ali, who is familiarly called Isye, has registered the kawai kanduk cloth as HAKI (Intellectual Property Rights).
“We have registered it as IPR, to prevent it from being claimed in the future as a special product from other regions,” she said.
Isye added, the kawai kanduk cloth not only serves as a complementary outfit for certain events, but can be used as home decoration decorations, such as chair covers, tablecloths, and wall hangings.
Meanwhile, Udo Fatin, a 30-year-old young man, who has been pursuing the handicraft for the last 3 years, expressed his appreciation for the concern of the Head of the South Sumatra Dekranasda towards the development and progress of the kawai kawai craftsmen.
“It is extraordinary that Mrs. Feby gives attention to us the kawai kanduk craftsmen. We are happy with the guidance she has done, especially when the difficulty in supplying raw materials for the craftsmen will be resolved soon”, she said.
The native Ranau youth continued that he was determined to continue to pursue the legacy of the ancestral kawai fabric so that it can be maintained.
“I am originally from here. I grew up here surrounded by people who have been doing kawai kanduk crafts since childhood. That’s why I was moved to study and pursue it.
