Banyuasin, The Indonesia Post – Governor of South Sumatra H Herman Deru attended the Commemoration of the XLVII National Press Day (HPN) and the 75th Anniversary of Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) at the South Sumatra Province Level in Banyuasin Regency.
HD says in today’s Digital Age, everyone can be a journalist, a news producer. With various facilities and conveniences that people can receive and make information so that people become confused with an article whether a journalist’s product or not.
“For this reason, the Journalist Competency Test must still be carried out so that there is a benchmark in determining the journalist’s profession. PWI must also prepare a legal division to assist journalists in carrying out their duties and if there are problems related to the ITE Law. Because journalists have different backgrounds both in terms of education, personal and others,” said HD.
He added that journalists must also educate the public about what the government has done and this is the duty of journalists as conveyers of information.
“Let’s be sharp about the journalist profession where we have to uphold a profession that has a code of ethics that must be obeyed and do work professionally,” he concluded.
Chairman of the PWI South Sumatra Firdaus Komar said that on the PWI anniversary this time, PWI Sumsel would hold a Journalist-Based Literacy Village Movement in 17 districts in South Sumatra. With the aim of suppressing the practice of unprofessional journalists, suppressing the emergence of hoaxes and increasing the potential of the village.
The Regent of Banyuasin Askolani expressed his appreciation to the journalists who took the time to attend Banyuasin so that Banyuasin could be better known to the wider community.
On that occasion, HD handed over the 2021 PWI award for human journalists who became an inspiration among journalists. (rmt/ril)
