Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Governor of South Sumatra H Herman Deru opened the Journalist Competency Examination (UKW) organized by the Examiner Institute for the Veterans National Development University (UPN) Yogyakarta.
In his speech, HD conveyed that Journalist Competence is absolutely necessary so that journalists, both online and in print, can have competencies and certifications based on their respective expertise in presenting news.
“In conveying news that has the same source, of course the delivery and presentation is different for each journalist. Some use hyperbole language, some just list it depending on the writing style. So every journalist must know what competence he has. His writing skills are in any field,” said HD.
HD continued, cooperation between journalists, media and local government is very important. Because the community has the right to get information about their regional development and what their leaders have done. For this reason, HD wants in the future the need for collaboration between the South Sumatra Provincial Government, the South Sumatra Communications and Information Technology, the press council in terms of organizing the Journalist Competency Test for all districts/cities.
“I ask for the UKW to be held by the South Sumatra Provincial Government. The relevant agencies can budget and cooperate with the Press Council. So that all journalists in South Sumatra can be competent”. he said.
Chairman of the Press Council Jamalul said:
UKW is needed so that there is a benchmark in determining the journalist profession. Currently the Press Council is conducting journalist certification and media verification, where currently many claim to be journalists without a clear media. (ojn/ril)
