Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi highlighted the need for the Y20 (Youth 20) forum to advance the two roles of youth in order to achieve a better future for the world.
“So, to be able to tread a better future, Y20 must be able to advance the two roles of youth,” said Foreign Minister Retno at the Y20 Indonesia 2022 Summit, which was held on a hybrid basis in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Foreign Minister Retno said that in the midst of the current global challenges, she believes that the transformative capabilities of 1.2 billion young people around the world can make an extraordinary contribution to global solutions.
For this reason, the Y20 forum, as a forum for youth consultation from 20 G20 member countries, whose presidency this year is held by Indonesia, according to Foreign Minister Retno, has the responsibility to advance the two roles of youth in handling global issues.
The first role is that youth are agents of peace. As future leaders, young people must play an important role in ensuring peace and a prosperous and sustainable future.
In a globalized and interconnected world, said the Foreign Minister, this can be done by fostering dialogue, then building bridges based on diversity.
“These are the principles that must be advanced to ensure peace,” she said.
In addition, youth, she said, are agents of change. Y20, said the Foreign Minister, must be able to overcome various challenges and change the world for the better, as well as think of innovative solutions.
“In this context, youth must invest in issues that can have an impact on the future, such as health, digital transformation, energy transition and also to become a better future for the next generation,” said the Foreign Minister.
As an agent of change and an instrumental agent of the issue, Foreign Minister Retno welcomed the recommendations from the Y20 summit on efforts to make progress on these priority issues.
She also hopes that the Y20 peak event can be an effective platform to pass the leadership on to youth groups.
“Youth must be a source of solutions for the world to recover together and recover better,” she said. (ojn/bbs)
