The Ministry of Social Affairs helps salt farmers to develop their businesses

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – The Ministry of Social Affairs helps salt farmers increase production and develop their businesses through the Social Entrepreneurship Program (ProKUS).

According to the ministry’s press release received in Jakarta, Monday, ProKUS includes providing financial assistance for the creation of salt fields with tunnel technology that allows salt farmers to continue producing during the rains as well as assistance for salt farmers.

ProKUS assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs, among others, was given to salt farmers in Kusamba Village, Klungkung Regency, Bali Province.

“The development of a strategy to increase salt production, marketing, and cooperation in building a sustainable business ecosystem is expected to have a positive impact and improve welfare for beneficiaries and the surrounding community,” said Director General of Social Empowerment of the Ministry of Social Affairs Edi Suharto.

He appreciated the support of the Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS) in assisting and empowering salt farmers in Kusamba.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Klungkung I Nyoman Suwirta said that salt farmers in Kusamba could improve the quality and quantity of production with support from the Ministry of Social Affairs.

“I hope that in the future the salt production of Kusamba Village will be able to compete in the market and have an impact on improving the economy and welfare of the people of Kusamba Village,” he said. (mhn/ril)
