Palembang, The Indonesia Post – As an effort to increase body immunity and maintain physical fitness, the Chairperson of the Legislative Council (DPRD) for the Province of South Sumatra, RA Anita Noeringhati, took part in healthy heart exercises in commemoration of World Heart Day 2022.
The joint exercise which took place at Kambang Iwak Besak Park, Palembang, Sunday (2/10/22) was attended by hundreds of participants.
This annual commemoration aims to increase public awareness of heart and blood vessel disease.
To note, heart and blood vessel disease is still a health scourge because it is the most common cause of death in the world.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 17 million people worldwide die from heart and blood vessel disease.
Based on the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), the incidence of heart and blood vessel disease in Indonesia is increasing from year to year.
At least 15 out of 1000 people, or about 4.2 million people now have cardiovascular disease. Of these, 2,784,064 people suffer from heart disease.
The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) reports that 14.4 percent of the causes of death in Indonesia come from coronary heart disease. (ojn/ril)
