China eases foreigners arriving through Hong Kong

Beijing, The Indonesia Post – Chinese authorities facilitate visa applications for foreign nationals who enter mainland China via Hong Kong.

However, to get this visa, applicants must be able to show a certificate stating that they have received a COVID-19 vaccine injection made in China.

To restart the flow of in and out between China and several countries, starting Monday, the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will facilitate visa application facilities.

Several types of visas can be issued to foreigners who want to enter China through Hong Kong, including for business purposes, work, and meet the family (family reunion).

Business visa holders from APEC member countries that get vaccines made in China, such as Indonesia and Malaysia, are also given leniency to enter China, as reported by a number of media compiled in Beijing.

Evidence of negative swab test results and health certificates issued by representatives of Chinese authorities in the applicant’s home country is no longer required.

If the policy is effective, it is hoped that it will be implemented in the city of Guangzhou, China, which is adjacent to Hong Kong, said Tian Guangqiang, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

This is very necessary, considering that a number of countries in the Southeast Asian region use vaccines made in China.

But unfortunately, the ease of obtaining this visa does not include a student visa. Whereas in China, there are around 14,000 Indonesian students who wish to return to campus.

Previously, the Beijing Municipal Government lifted the mandatory requirement for swabbing tests for people who had just come from various cities in China.

The rule came into effect on Tuesday (14/3) after more than 40 days the Chinese capital did not get any additional new cases. (rma/bbs)
