Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian men’s doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto again recorded an exciting achievement by winning the title for the third time this year by winning the Malaysia Masters badminton tournament, in Kuala Lumpur, Sunday.
In the All Indonesian Final match, Fajar/Rian defeated the world’s third-ranked men’s doubles Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan in the top party with two straight games 21-12, 21-19.
In addition to gaining success at the Malaysia Masters, the sixth seeded pair first climbed the highest podium in the Swiss Open (Super 300) and Indonesia Masters (Super 500) tournaments.
In the final match which took place at the Axiata Arena, Fajar/Rian played comfortably from the start of the game. Fajar/Rian, who faced their compatriots, already understood the main character and pattern of the pair nicknamed The Daddies.
Hendra’s famous return is very accurate and efficient, in fact Fajar / Rian can break it.
The first game really became Fajar/Rian’s power because they weren’t overtaken at all, with the only critical situation occurring when Hendra/Ahsan chased four points from 11-5 to 11-9.
The game turned even more intense in the second game when both partners repeatedly switched positions as score leaders.
Hendra/Ahsan have the opportunity to extend the match into a rubber game when they lead 5-7, 8-10 and 12-15. However, Fajar/Rian were able to overturn their senior’s advantage when the score was tied at 19-19 through the additional two points obtained after submitting a challenge at the match point.
Prior to the match between Hendra/Ahsan and Fajar/Rian, Indonesia’s representative in the mixed doubles, Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha, had to settle for runner-up status after appearing in the inaugural final round of the BWF Super 500 event.
In the final which lasted 32 minutes, Rinov/Pitha were defeated by second seed Zheng Si Wei/Huang Dong Ping (China) in two straight games, 17-21, 12-21. (ojn/bbs)
