Indonesia is one of 35 countries in the world that are prone to disasters, Minister Luhut: We must be prepared to face it

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesia is a region that has a high risk of disaster-prone. In fact, President Joko Widodo in his direction at the opening of the 2021 National Disaster Management Coordination Meeting at the State Palace, said that Indonesia is one of 35 countries in the world that are prone to disasters.

Seeing this potential, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, invited all parties to be prepared for disasters.

“There is no word not ready, we must be ready to face it. Don’t let us cry over something because we are not ready, “he said in a virtual National Coordination Meeting for BNPB Disaster Management, Thursday (4/3/2021).

If you look at the disasters in the 2020 period, Luhut said that environmental problems also affect the potential for disasters in Indonesia.

“And if we look at the disasters in Indonesia from January 1 to December 6, 2020, we are full of disasters. Here the environmental issue becomes important, cutting wood, excavating that is not in accordance with the regulations also has a detrimental effect on our environment, “he said.

In addition, said Luhut, the increase in population in Indonesia also made the potential for disasters worse.

“Also because of the addition of humans too. Because we are not friendly to nature, it also makes it worse, “he said.

Luhut also warned all regional heads in Indonesia that the threat of a tsunami in Indonesia was real. In fact, said Luhut, all villages in Indonesia are also prone to potential tsunamis.

“Almost all villages in Indonesia are prone to being affected by the tsunami. So come on, Governors, regents, let’s be careful, “he said.

“Don’t do it again because (the tsunami) didn’t exist, didn’t exist for a year, or didn’t exist for three years, then tomorrow won’t exist. There can be tomorrow, or even after this. Because no one can control this earthquake, ”explained Luhut. (mhn/bbs)
