Interested in the World, Indonesian Minister of Agriculture Encourages Export of Swallow’s Nests

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo encourages an increase in the number of exports of swallow’s nests abroad by increasing the amount of production which will have a double impact on the Indonesian economy.

Minister of Agriculture Syahrul in his statement quoted in Jakarta, Saturday, explained that the export market share of swallow’s nest is still wide open and Indonesia must be able to take the opportunity to meet the supply.

“This is our focus for both the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Trade, our representatives there, and others, to encourage swallow nests so they do not raise questions in the Chinese market. There is no quota, as long as it is able to fulfill the requirements. The market is still wide open and we are capable of production, ”explained the Minister of Agriculture Syahrul.

Minister of Agriculture Syahrul visited a swallow’s nest processing facility in Surabaya, East Java, to directly observe the production process of the livestock subsector. The Minister of Agriculture plans to establish special cooperation with China regarding swallow’s nest in supporting increased exports of this commodity.

“The productivity of our swallow’s nest is in demand by the world. I will go to China to escape this pandemic, so that our exports will be stronger, ”said Minister of Agriculture Syahrul.

Previously, the Minister of Agriculture released 494 kilograms of swallow nest production from East Java with a value of Rp9.9 billion to China. The export was carried out together with 33 other leading East Java agricultural commodities worth IDR 140.3 billion to 12 destination countries.

East Java Province has 84 registered swallow houses with nine swallow processing houses. The export volume of swallow’s nest in 2020 was recorded at 245.3 tons with a value reaching IDR 3.5 trillion.

Of this amount, 26 percent of the production has succeeded in fulfilling the Chinese market and the rest is absorbed by the export markets of other countries such as Australia, the United States, Hong Kong, Canada, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia and Vietnam.

In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture also noted an increasing trend in East Java’s swallow nest exports during 2021, reaching 51.3 tons with a value of IDR 661.3 billion. (ojn/bbs)
