Reviewing Jokowi’s Big Project in Borobudur, Minister Luhut Accompanied by Minister Sandiaga Uno and Minister Nadiem

Magelang, The Indonesia Post – The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan did a working visit to the Borobudur Temple area, Magelang, Central Java.

Luhut was accompanied by Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Nadiem Anwar Makariem, and Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Parekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, on this visit.

In addition, there were also Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Angela Tanoesoedibjo, Governor of Central Java Ganjar Pranowo, Director General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR Diana Kusumastuti and Director General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR Hedy Rahadian.

They reviewed the development of Borobudur as one of the five Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP). The project is one of Jokowi’s big plans in the tourism sector.

“Currently the government is sharpening and implementing the Borobudur-Yogyakarta-Prambanan Integrated Tourism Master Plan to develop the Borobudur Super Priority Tourism Destination (DPSP) into quality tourism,” said Luhut in an official statement.

Luhut explained that the government will prepare the Borobudur Temple area to become an international standard cultural heritage conservation laboratory.

On the other hand, he said, the main problem currently facing Borobudur Temple is the huge pressure on the temple structure. This is due to the increase in temple tourists, which reached 8,000 people per day in 2019.

Meanwhile, the results of a study by the Borobudur Conservation Center show that ideally the peak area of Borobudur Temple is only able to accommodate a maximum of 128 visitors per one visit per day.

“To ensure that the impact of the preservation of Borobudur Temple is sustainable, we will actively involve the community,” he said.

“One of the roles of students is to deepen the study of the Borobudur area so that a sense of belonging to this area grows. Thus, there will be a sense of responsibility to care for and preserve this heritage for future generations, “he continued.

On the same occasion, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno explained that the development of the tourism sector and the creative economy at DPSP Borobudur will be carried out in three strategic pillars, namely innovation, adaptation and collaboration.

Some of the programs that will be carried out are the development of amenities and accessibility in the Borobudur Authority Body’s Authoritative Area. Including the development of competency in human resources and the tourism industry, promotion and publication of tourism products and activities, as well as the revitalization of tourist destinations.

“There is also a stimulus program for tourism and creative economy entrepreneurs to be able to rise from the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Sandiaga Uno.

The stimulus program that will be implemented, in collaboration with relevant ministries and agencies is the Tourism Grant Fund which this year will be increased and the target recipient is expanded. Also a stimulus with a long-term soft loan scheme with interest below KUR (People’s Business Credit).

Next is the development of the Tourism Village, which is part of the most important pillar of tourism development and the creative economy going forward.

According to the 2020-2024 RPJMN, Kemenparekraf / Baparekraf targets as many as 244 certified tourist villages to become independent tourism villages by 2024. Of the 244 tourist villages, 150 tourist villages are in 5 Super Priority Destinations, including DPSP Borobudur and will be expanded.

“This program must cover tourism villages in each DPSP. We hope that this tourist village will be able to improve the community’s economy and create jobs. And of course, the development of a tourist village emphasizes the sustainable aspect, “explained Sandiaga.

Meanwhile, Nadiem Anwar Makarim stated that his party put forward the overall improvement of governance from protection to utilization to maximize the potential of this area.

Nadiem said, there are several things that will be arranged in the integrated management plan of Borobudur Temple.

These include improving interpretation and information facilities regarding the important value of the Borobudur Temple Complex, improving the quality of the environment and natural resources, developing sustainable tourism that supports the protection of the Borobudur Temple Complex and improving community welfare, increasing cultural heritage conservation activities in the area, and improved governance.

“The development of supporting attractions at a number of points around the Borobudur Temple Complex aims to spread tourist visits, thereby reducing the burden on the Borobudur Temple itself. This must be in line with the spirit of protecting the cultural landscape of the Borobudur Temple Complex, “he explained.

For information, they had time to check a number of Borobudur development points. Among them are Borobudur Authority Land, Samigaluh Field, Borobudur Art Village or Kujon Field, Kembanglimus Community Center, Palbapang Gate, Manohara Study Center and Borobudur Temple Concourse in Magelang, Central Java.
