President Jokowi is proud of the struggle of the Indonesian national team in the AFF Cup

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that he and the Indonesian people are proud of the struggle of the Indonesian Football National Team in the 2020 AFF Cup.

“Even though I haven’t won yet, I and all Indonesian people are still proud of your struggles,” said President Jokowi through the official Instagram account @jokowi which was uploaded in Jakarta, Saturday.

The President assessed that the Indonesian national team had fought persistently and sportively in the tournament.

“For the Indonesian national team, you have fought with perseverance and sportsmanship,” he said.

The President also congratulated Thailand for winning the 2020 AFF Cup, after beating Indonesia with an aggregate score of 6-2.

“Congratulations to Thailand for winning the 2020 AFF Cup tonight,” the President wrote.

The Indonesian national team confirmed themselves to be the runner-up in the 2020 AFF Cup after offsetting Thailand with a score of 2-2 in the second leg of the final at the National Stadium, Singapore, Saturday night.

Thus, on aggregate, Indonesia lost to Thailand 2-6 after in the first leg of the final, Indonesia trailed 0-4.

Indonesia’s goals in the second match of the final were made by Ricky Kambuaya and Egy Maulana. However, Thailand equalized through Adisak Kraisorn and Sarach Yooyen.

With these results, Indonesia has become the country with the most achievements in the second place of the AFF Cup, which is six times and has never once tasted the champion trophy. The same achievement was recorded by Indonesia in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010 and 2016.

While Thailand is listed as the most successful country in the AFF Cup with six titles. Previously, Thailand won the AFF title in 1996, 2000, 2002, 2014 and 2016. (ojn/bbs)
