The Republic of Indonesia is ready to realize renewable energy projects with G20 funding

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesia is ready to realize clean energy development projects, especially for renewable energy, using US$20 billion or the equivalent of IDR 302 trillion obtained through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) at the G20 Summit in November 2022.

Follow up on funding commitments from developed countries to help accelerate the energy transition program in Indonesia to achieve net zero emission in 2060 or faster because the JETP Secretariat located at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has just been inaugurated.

“Earlier the Minister and the Ambassadors were present with a team from Japan and America to inaugurate the operation of the JETP Secretariat Office which we all understand is the result of last year’s G20 in Bali which was launched by the President in November,” said the Director General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Dadan Kusdiana during a press conference at the Office of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Jakarta, Thursday.

Kusdiana said that the inauguration of the JETP Secretariat Office was the starting point for the implementation of the JETP program as stated in the joint statement agreed upon at the G20 Summit.

Apart from preparing a renewable energy development plan, JETP’s other main activities are accelerating the retirement of PLTU, then programs to help increase energy efficiency and develop supporting industries for New Renewable Energy (EBT) in Indonesia.

“In a short period of time at the Secretariat, we will draw up a comprehensive investment plan, in which the projects, activities, what the program will look like, how much the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions will be, how much it will cost, how much the investment will be and how we will execute it. Everyone will follow the regulations that exist in us, “he explained.

Dadan further said that one of the candidates who will receive this funding is an EBT generator of 20.9 gigaWatts as stated in the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) and several coal-fired power plant early retirement candidates.

“Later in the comprehensive investment plan, we will negotiate regarding funding,” he said.

Head of U.S. Department of Treasury Alexia Latourte, also said that the JETP Secretariat would support the Government of Indonesia in achieving the JETP target, including a comprehensive investment and policy plan, which reflects targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and most importantly to support affected communities.

“That is the reason we say Just Energy Transition, which is an energy transition that is just and considers the lives and livelihoods of affected people at every stage of the energy transition journey, so that no one is left behind,” said Latourte. (mhn/bbs)
