Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo invited the national automotive industry to start shifting its industry to electric vehicles which are believed to be a world trend going forward.
“Little by little, to shift the industry towards the trend that almost all countries are currently in that direction. From combustion, shift little by little to electric cars,” the President said in his remarks at the opening of the 2023 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) automotive exhibition, at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Thursday.
The President said that the government is currently pushing for the electric car ecosystem from upstream to downstream to be immediately owned by Indonesia, so that Indonesia can enter the global supply chain.
“So investors now, if they want to make cathodes or precursors, we say stop first, they have to get into EV batteries so we can get more added value from the industry we have,” said the President.
Meanwhile regarding the incentives for electric vehicles that will be provided by the government, the President said that currently the Ministry of Finance is still making calculations. The President also emphasized that the government would give priority to motorcycle vehicles to be given incentives.
“But of course the motorbike will take precedence. I asked earlier about the electric cars, the queue is one year, the queue is 2 months, the queue is 6 months, pivot, let alone given incentives. But it’s still in the calculations and calculations later,” Jokowi said.
Jokowi on that occasion also reviewed a number of electric vehicles, both four-wheeled and two-wheeled, one of which was the blue Morris Garage 4EV four-wheeled car. (mhn/bbs)
