Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian Fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri asked journalists to uphold the Journalistic Code of Ethics in the political year ahead of the 2024 General Election (Pemilu).
“This is a political year. Don’t go easy. There is a Journalistic Code of Ethics,” said Megawati when delivering a keynote address at an event titled “Kick Off Meeting Pancasila in Action” in Jakarta, Thursday.
Megawati asked journalists to pay more attention to the applicable regulations and not directly insult someone through reporting.
“I don’t accept that someone is directly insulted, right now that’s the model,” she said.
This statement was made by Megawati after explaining that she was attending the “Pancasila Kick Off Meeting in Action” with the permission of Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
In this event, Megawati discussed various issues, such as stunting, domestic violence, sexual violence against children and women, and anticipating disasters.
Megawati explained that when she asked Jokowi for permission to attend this program, she said that the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) would not be strong enough to handle the problem of stunting alone and would require the involvement of many parties.
After listening to Megawati’s explanation, President Jokowi invited Megawati to attend the “Kick Off Meeting Pancasila in Action”.
“That’s it, you know, I talked to the president. So, don’t let Ibu Mega pretend to be alone, go around on her own. No, I know the regulations of this republic, I know the history of this republic,” said Megawati. (mhn/bbs)
