The result of President Joko Widodo’s limited meeting with his ministers was assessed that the world of tourism was the sector that was most affected by Covid-19. The President instructed his staff in the tourism sector to be serious, and there was no massive work termination.
“We know the most severe impact is felt and first felt because Covid-19 is the world of tourism. Both those affected were hotels, restaurants, and also related to the people, namely handicraft items sold there. Therefore, mitigation measures need to be done as soon as possible, “said the President, as reported by the Presidential team.
According to President Jokowi, mitigation that needs to be done immediately is first, a social protection program for workers who work in the tourism sector. The President requested that it really be ensured to exist and reach the target.
“Then the second is also the reallocation of the existing budget. From the Ministry of Tourism, it should be directed towards a kind of, I don’t know what the goods are, but a kind of labor-intensive program for workers engaged in tourism,” the President said.
Then the third, the President requested that his staff prepare economic stimulus for businesses in the tourism sector and the creative economy. The President believes that this must be really done so that they can survive and not make layoffs (termination of employment) on a large scale.
The President believes that the sluggishness of the tourism sector due to the corona virus pandemic will only last until the end of the year. For this reason, an attitude of optimism must continue to be built so that the tourism sector can take advantage of the rising momentum as soon as the downturn ends.
“I believe this is only until the end of the year. Next year there will be a boom in the field of tourism. Everyone wants to get out, everyone wants to enjoy the beauty that is in the regions that have tourism so that optimism must continue to be raised. Don’t until later we are trapped in pessimism because of the Covid-19 problem so that the boom that will emerge after Covid-19 is over, we cannot take advantage of it well, “said the President.
