President Expresses Condolences for the Disaster in West Sulawesi and West Java

Palembang,  The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo expressed his condolences for the victims who died as a result of the earthquake that hit West Sulawesi Province, Friday (15/1), early this morning.

“I on behalf of the government and all Indonesian people express my deep sorrow for the victims who died,” said President Joko Widodo at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Friday, January 15, 2021.

The earthquake that hit West Sulawesi Province was measuring 6.2 magnitude and occurred at around 01.28 WIB. The President immediately ordered a number of his staff to act quickly to take emergency response steps.

“This morning I also called the Governor of West Sulawesi and I have also ordered the Head of BNPB (National Disaster Management Agency), to the Minister of Social Affairs, to the Head of Basarnas (National Search and Relief Agency), and the TNI and National Police Commander and his staff, to immediately take emergency response steps, search for and find victims, and treat injured victims, ”he explained.

The Head of State also asked the public to remain calm and follow the instructions given by officers in the field.

On this occasion, the President also expressed his deep condolences for the victims who died from landslides in Sumedang Regency, West Java Province. For the handling of landslides in Sumedang Regency, the President has also ordered the Head of BNPB, the Minister of Social Affairs, and the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) to immediately relocate residents affected by the disaster.

“Lastly, I urge all of us to continue to increase our awareness of extreme weather in the form of heavy rain and others and to always pay attention to the early warning about the weather from the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency),” he said. (rma /bbs)
