Jakarta, TheIndonesiaPost – The number of people who have lost their jobs due to the corona pandemic has raised both concern and sympathy.
Vice President Ma’ruf Amin acknowledged that. According to him at this time the poverty rate has increased.
“Many people lost their jobs and many small shops closed. So the number of poor people increased,” Ma’ruf said in an official statement issued by the Vice President, Tuesday (4/28).
To overcome this, Ma’ruf invited the entire community to help one another in the economy of the citizens affected by corona.
He then alluded to the message of the Prophet Muhammad Solollohualaiwasallam which broadcasts for people who have an excess property to give alms to those in need.
Ma’ruf also stressed that efforts to eliminate hunger for the poor, both Muslim and non-Muslim, are legal fardu kifayah.
“Right now there are many of our brothers and sisters who need our help. Eliminating hunger, the minimum law is fardu kifayah,” Ma’ruf was quoted as saying on Indonesian online media.
Ma’ruf also said that if there were neighbors around the house who did not eat, then that would be a sin for the surroundings. What’s more, until they died of starvation.
Ma’ruf considers that the condition makes the law to help starving neighbors become fardu ain or will sin for the surroundings if they do not do so.
“The obligation is not fardu kifayah but already fardu ain. So yes the month of Ramadan we make the momentum of social solidarity. By helping their lives,” he said.
Previously, the Ministry of Economy data showed that the poverty rate based on government projections rose from 9.15 percent to 9.59 percent the impact of Corona.
There are four regions that experienced the biggest surge in unemployment due to the coronavirus pandemic. Among Java, Sumatra, Bali and Nusa Tenggara island. (ras/bbs)
