Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor H. Herman Deru and Deputy Governor H. Cik Ujang attended the South Sumatra Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) Plenary Session commemorating the 80th Anniversary of South Sumatra Province, held at the South Sumatra DPRD Building on Monday (May 18, 2026). The meeting was opened by the Speaker of the South Sumatra DPRD, Andie Dinialdie.
In his remarks, Governor Herman Deru said the anniversary commemoration was not merely an annual ceremony, but an appropriate time to reflect on the development journey of South Sumatra Province, which is now exactly 80 years old.
“As South Sumatra matures, it has significant assets in the form of history, culture, and extraordinary natural resources to continue developing and competing at the national level,” said HD.
Herman Deru also outlined several development achievements achieved by South Sumatra. In 2025, South Sumatra’s economic growth reached 5.35 percent, the second-highest on the island. This growth continued in the first quarter of 2026, reaching 0.75 percent.
“This achievement also contributed to a reduction in poverty. As of September 2025, South Sumatra’s poverty rate stood at 9.85 percent. Meanwhile, extreme poverty was reduced to 0.76 percent in 2025, exceeding the national average of 0.85 percent,” he explained.
Furthermore, HD also mentioned the various awards won by the South Sumatra Provincial Government throughout 2025 and early 2026, ranging from regional development, government innovation, health services, food security, public information disclosure, bureaucratic reform, regional digitalization, to poverty alleviation and stunting.
Also in attendance were the South Sumatra Provincial Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda), Chairperson of the South Sumatra Family Welfare Movement (TP PKK) Feby Herman Deru, Chairperson of the South Sumatra Women’s Coordination Board (BKOW) Lidyawati Cik Ujang, members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) from South Sumatra, regents, deputy regents, and mayors from across South Sumatra, and heads of regional government agencies (OPD) in South Sumatra.
