Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The 157th anniversary of Lahat Regency was celebrated solemnly and with a spirit of optimism. The event was marked by a plenary meeting of the Lahat Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD), attended by Governor H. Herman Deru and the Chairperson of the South Sumatra Provincial Family Welfare Movement (TP-PKK), Hj. Feby HD, on Wednesday (May 20, 2026).
In his remarks, Herman Deru emphasized the importance of regional resilience in facing various challenges of the times, ranging from technological acceleration, economic change, to the demographic bonus towards Golden Indonesia 2045.
“Lahat Regency is one of the oldest regencies in South Sumatra, with a long history and an important role in regional development,” said HD.
Meanwhile, Lahat Regent Bursah Zarnubi said that development in Lahat Regency is currently focused on starting from the village level.
“Villages are the starting point for poverty alleviation and improving community welfare. The Lahat Regency Government also places significant emphasis on the education sector, from improving the quality of teaching staff to providing educational assistance for underprivileged children who are accepted into prestigious universities,” the Regent explained.
HD also appreciated Lahat Regency’s development direction, which he considered increasingly clear, with a focus on strengthening human resources. He was optimistic that under Bursah Zarnubi’s leadership, Lahat Regency would progress further and be able to compete amidst the rapid changes of the times.

Today’s younger generation must be prepared from an early age to become key actors in development when Indonesia enters its golden era in 2045,” added HD.
In his closing remarks, HD stated that with its favorable regional conditions, rich natural resources, and geographical potential, Lahat Regency has significant potential to continue growing and improving the welfare of its people. (mhn/ril)
