Returning to the 2026 National Sports Week (KEN), Cik Ujang Invites the Public to Enliven the 2026 Sriwijaya Festival

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – The Deputy Governor of South Sumatra, H. Cik Ujang, officially opened the 34th Sriwijaya Festival 2026, held at the Jakabaring Regional Handicrafts Office in Palembang on Friday, May 15, 2026. The annual cultural festival, themed “The Ancient Relics of Sriwijaya,” is part of a series of events commemorating the 80th anniversary of South Sumatra Province, taking place from May 15 to 17, 2026.

In his remarks, Cik Ujang said that the Sriwijaya Festival is not just an annual event, but also a concrete form of the South Sumatra Provincial Government’s commitment to preserving the cultural heritage and history of the glory of the Sriwijaya Kingdom.

“The Sriwijaya Festival is not only about remembering past glories, but also about reviving Sriwijaya’s noble values, such as maritime glory, tolerance, cultural intelligence, and openness to the outside world, to be applied in today’s life,” said Cik Ujang.

He also emphasized that the Sriwijaya Festival is an important part of realizing the vision of “South Sumatra Wonderful 2030” by developing cultural tourism supported by the creative economy sector and MSMEs.

On this occasion, the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) Award Charter was also presented from the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism to the Deputy Governor of South Sumatra, as well as the presentation of the Indonesian Intangible Cultural Heritage Certificate and the National Ranking Cultural Heritage Certificate to a number of regional heads in South Sumatra.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Secretary for Event Organizer Development at the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, Nova Arisne, said that South Sumatra should be proud because the Sriwijaya Festival was again included in the 125 Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN) of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism.

“This certainly shows that the Sriwijaya Festival has its own character in showcasing the culture of South Sumatra Province and has met national quality standards in organizing cultural and tourism events,” he said.

Also in attendance were the heads of regional government agencies (OPD) of South Sumatra Province and the regents/mayors of South Sumatra. (mhn/ril)
