Acting Governor Fatoni: Young people must be interested in knowing the history of heritage in South Sumatra

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – Acting (Pj) Governor of South Sumatra Agus Fatoni accompanied by the Head of the South Sumatra Province Culture and Tourism Service Drs. H. Aufa Syahrizal inspected the Balaputra Dewa Museum which is located on Jalan Srijaya Palembang, Wednesday (17/04/2024).

During the inspection, Fatoni was seen going around the entire room containing historical objects and asked the museum management to immediately record and make a list of these historical relics so that they become a list of historical tourist destinations in South Sumatra.

“Immediately note down and make a list of the most interesting things to visit in this museum, so that tourists who will visit Palembang City already know what they will visit,” he said.

One thing that attracts attention is the existence of the Lesung Boat which was found in the Ogan River. This boat was made from a tree in the 12th century at a depth of 6 meters from the bottom of the Ogan River.

Apart from that, there is Tanjak and the presence of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II during the era of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate in 1804-182. Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II was the Sultan of Palembang who ruled from 12 April 1804; ten days after his father died, until he was exiled to the Netherlands on July 1 1821. His birth name before coming to power was Raden Muhammad Hasan Pangeran Ratu and he is one of our heroes from Palembang.

From this review, Fatoni wants young people to be more interested in getting to know the history and heritage of South Sumatra and continue to promote very interesting historical values. One of them is about the existence of the Srivijaya Kingdom.

He explained the importance of looking for data about the existence of the Sriwijaya kingdom.

“We have to trace the history of Sriwijaya’s existence, because the Sriwijaya Kingdom was one of the maritime rulers of Southeast Asia, of course this is a special attraction for those who want to visit South Sumatra,” he said.

Fatoni also visited the traditional Palembang and Iliran houses which we know as Limas Houses and explained the philosophy of the ornaments in the Limas houses, one of which was the presence of goat horns on the roof of the house.

Also present was Assistant I for Government and Social Welfare Drs. H. Edward Chandra, MH, South Sumatra Educator Beny Pramana Putra, Head of the South Sumatra State Museum Candra Amprayadi SH and Heads of South Sumatra Provincial OPD. (ojn/ril)
