Minister of Social Affairs hopes that youth organizations will be involved in developing social welfare

Surabaya, The Indonesia Post – The Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) of the Republic of Indonesia, Tri Rismaharini, stated that she hopes that members of youth organizations will always be involved in efforts to develop social welfare in their respective environments.

This was conveyed by Minister of Social Affairs Risma after attending the “Grand Consolidation of Karang Taruna Surabaya City” event in the Youth Hall area, Surabaya, East Java, Sunday.

She is optimistic that the existence of youth organizations will have an impact on the progress of social development, because they routinely come into direct contact with the community.

This factor allows youth organization administrators to know the problems in each area where they live, so they can come up with solutions which will later be presented to the government.

“Firstly, this youth group is also an agent of change and secondly, they are potential Indonesian leaders,” she said.

Risma also admitted that when she took part in the consolidation, she got several stories about the programs that had been initiated by each youth organization in the city of Surabaya.

“So earlier he was doing things related to social aspects and various things too. That was very good, because he showed his concern for the environment,” she said.

The Minister of Social Affairs hopes that the performance of youth organizations in the city of Surabaya can continue to be improved to prevent the emergence of juvenile delinquency.

“Their activities can be positive because they avoid juvenile delinquency and other things,” she said.

In the same place, the Mayor of Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, stated that the local city government was ready to facilitate a gathering place for youth organizations.

“That’s why I said we can utilize the assets, so that later youth organizations will also be part of developing their activities,” he said.

This step, said Eri, was also to commemorate the momentum of “Young Youth Organization Day” on September 26 2023.

The Surabaya City Government together with local city-level youth organizations are preparing the concept for the celebration.

“Welcoming Karang Taruna Day, we will gather all agents of change from all youth organizations, which God willing, number more than 27 thousand. We are coordinating where it will be held,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Surabaya City Youth Organization, Fuad Benardi, added that the 27 thousand agents of change were representatives of each youth organization who had registered as youth organization ambassador participants.

The applicants then go through the selection stages until 31 youth youth ambassadors are selected.

“They competed for insight as well as self-development training from which 31 pairs of representatives from each sub-district were selected,” he said.

Fuad mentioned that one of the development materials given to youth youth ambassadors was entrepreneurship.

“So that friends can have activities that can finally escape unemployment and create economic potential,” he said. (mhn/bbs)
