Pati, The Indonesia Post – Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo asked the Pati Regency Government to immediately build retention ponds and polders to prevent flooding, especially in Juwana District.
“Technical measures such as making polders, retention ponds, pump houses and embankments in Juwana must be carried out this year. Pati has several characteristics of areas that are indeed basins,” said Ganjar when checking flood handling in Pati Regency, Wednesday.
The flood that occurred in Doropayung Village, Juwana District, is an example of seasonal flooding that residents often face, even in 2014 there was a major flood in the area.
Apart from that area, there are still a number of other areas in the Pati Regency area which are also prone to flooding during the rainy season.
He admitted that he had asked the Pati Regent, sub-district head, village head and the PUPR Ministry to help map the flood-prone areas.
Ganjar has even communicated directly with PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono regarding the floods in Pati Regency and the related Kudus Regency.
“In the basin area, it has to be reengineered, technical, whether it is embankment, earlier the proposal was to make a polder, then pump it. So the retention ponds were made. So Pati must have that, otherwise it will be a flood. When you see people like that, the technical handling shouldn’t take long, 2023 must be handled,” he said.
The handling technique, Ganjar continued, would be carried out jointly by the Central Java Provincial Government, the Pati Regency Government, the PUPR Ministry and the River Basin Center.
“Our job from the government is to find a source of the budget. Now technically I will ask PUPR to design the areas, the points, then work with BBWS. Let us facilitate from the province so this must be resolved in a more comprehensive manner,” he said.
According to him, the handling that is currently visible and quite effective in reducing the impact of the overflow of the Silugonggo River is the construction of roads or evacuation routes which also function as embankments using Village Funds. (mhn/bbs)
