Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Bambang Soesatyo asked the government to ensure that all Indonesian citizens (WNI) residing in Ukraine can be evacuated to provide protection and security.
“The Indonesian government needs to ensure that all Indonesian citizens in Ukraine are made as much effort as possible to be evacuated to provide protection and security for Indonesian citizens in Ukraine,” said Bambang Soesatyo or Bamsoet in his statement in Jakarta, Friday.
He asked the Indonesian government through the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Bucharest to continue to communicate and monitor and provide protection to Indonesian citizens who could not be evacuated due to exposure to COVID-19 or due to a number of other conditions.
According to him, the Indonesian government also needs to ensure that Indonesian citizens who are still in Ukraine can fulfill their daily needs such as food, security and other needs.
“I also ask that Indonesian citizens who have been or are currently being evacuated to Indonesia not to rush back to Ukraine until an undetermined time limit, namely until the conflict and war between Russia and Ukraine is completely over,” he said.
In addition, Bamsoet asked the Indonesian government to continue to carry out a free and active foreign policy, and to encourage the conflict resolution process by prioritizing humanitarian principles because there are no signs of peace between Russia and Ukraine.
According to him, the MPR encourages the end of the war between Russia and Ukraine and the conflict can be resolved peacefully through diplomacy.
Previously, as many as 80 Indonesian citizens who were evacuated from Ukraine arrived in Indonesia on Thursday (3/3) at 17.10 WIB via flights with Garuda Indonesia aircraft. The arrival of the Indonesian citizens was welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
In a press conference, Foreign Minister Retno said there were 80 Indonesian citizens and three foreign nationals (WNA) who were family members of Indonesian citizens who were in the group.
They were picked up from Bucharest, Romania, after previously being evacuated from Ukraine considering the still tense situation due to the attacks launched by Russia in the country. (mhn/bbs)
