President: The Republic of Indonesia has succeeded in controlling the pandemic but still has to be careful

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that Indonesia had succeeded in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, including by achieving high vaccination achievements, but all nations must remain cautious.

“Even though we managed to control the pandemic, we have to be careful, alert to the possible risk of a pandemic because of the Omicron variant as previously conveyed by Mrs. Mega (Chairman of the PDIP DPP),” said President Jokowi at the commemoration of the 49th Anniversary of the PDI-P which was witnessed virtually in Jakarta. , Monday.

Before President Jokowi delivered his remarks virtually from the State Palace, the General Chair of the PDI-P DPP Megawati Soekarnoputri had delivered her political speech.

President Jokowi continued that Indonesia is now one of the top five countries that carry out the most vaccinations in the world. Until the beginning of this year, Indonesia has succeeded in injecting 288 million doses of vaccine into the community.

“Vaccination is also accelerated, we know that Indonesia is in the top 5 most vaccinations in the world. The first dose has reached 81.7 percent and the second dose has reached 56.1 percent, and 29 provinces out of 34 provinces have injected the first dose of more than 70 percent,” said the President.

The President explained that until January 9, 2022, confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia had decreased by 99 percent, namely 529 daily cases compared to the peak period of transmission in July 2021 which was 56,000 cases.

“We are successfully managing this very complex health challenge,” he said.

He emphasized that the COVID-19 pandemic must not stop efforts to improve people’s lives. Important problems such as stunting or growth disorders in children which are a big challenge for superior resources remain the government’s attention.

“Alhamdulillah, the stunting rate in 2021 will drop to 24.4 percent from the previous 37.2 percent, seven years ago,” he said.

The people’s access to educational facilities, said the President, has been guaranteed. There is assistance for underprivileged communities from basic education to tertiary education.

“In 2021, Smart Indonesia Cards with a budget of Rp. 11 trillion for 21 million students throughout the country. KIP Lectures with a budget of Rp. 9.4 trillion have also been given to 1.1 million students in the country in 2021,” said President Jokowi. (mhn/bbs)
