Jokowi: The world of the press in all countries faces many challenges

Jakarta, The Indonesia Post – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the world of press in all countries is facing more and more challenges, including from the latest developments in artificial intelligence (AI) programs.

“We don’t feel this alone in Indonesia, but all countries feel the same thing, the world of the press is increasingly facing challenges, because we cannot stop this digital world,” said Jokowi when officiating the opening of the XXV Congress of the Indonesian Journalists Association 2023 at the State Palace, Jakarta. , Monday.

Jokowi admitted that he often hears that the media industry is currently not doing well because of the increasing number of challenges that arise, one of which is the development of AI.

At the G20 Summit in India, 9-10 September 2023, said Jokowi, as many as six major countries spoke specifically about AI. Jokowi noted that a number of countries are afraid of the development of AI.

“I noticed that there is a lot of fear about artificial intelligence, and regulations are always late, so they are always preceded by new things,” he said.

After the emergence of AI, said Jokowi, now the concept of generative artificial intelligence is being born. In fact, with the emergence of AI alone, he said, many human roles are threatened in the world of work.

“Everyone knows that narrative scripts can use AI, even presenting news can also use AI,” said Jokowi.

Therefore, said the President, a large regulatory umbrella for holistic digital transformation is needed. Holistic regulations must also be able to regulate industries related to digitalization, such as the creative industry and MSMEs, as well as other industries.

On Monday, Jokowi explained that the government had just decided to strictly separate social commerce and e-commerce platforms.

He emphasized that technological developments must be able to create new economic potential, not kill existing economies.

“Once again, the big umbrella for regulations regarding digital transformation must be made more holistically and this is what the government is working on,” said Jokowi. (mhn/bbs)
