Governor Herman Deru Stresses Importance of Statistical Data in Development Policy

Palembang, The Indonesia Post – South Sumatra Governor H Herman Deru received a visit from the Head of the BPS of South Sumatra Province, M. Wahyu Yulianto, in the context of a friendly gathering in the South Sumatra Governor’s Guest Room, Friday (3/14/2025). The meeting discussed various strategic issues related to regional development, especially in the fields of agriculture and economy.

On that occasion, Herman Deru emphasized the importance of optimizing budget management and using statistical data as a basis for policy. He also highlighted the potential for increasing rice production and the need to maintain price stability at the farmer level.

“We must not be in a vacuum, we must optimize budget management so that the economy moves well. One of them is GSMP, rice import stock, meaning we must be the buffer. We must continue to communicate intensively about what we must touch,” he said.

Governor Herman Deru stated that he would use the existing data for all policies and thanked BPS for its support in various policies that are beneficial to the community.

Meanwhile, the Head of the South Sumatra BPS, M. Wahyu Yulianto, conveyed several achievements and work programs of BPS, including South Sumatra’s economic growth reaching 5.03% in 2024, equivalent to the national figure.

He also reported on the potential for increasing rice production, the number of agricultural and food business actors in South Sumatra, and the plan to implement the 2026 Economic Census. “We ask for the Governor’s support so that the achievements are in accordance with what we expect,” he said.

The meeting also discussed efforts to improve the quality of data on the poor by unifying target data into the Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS).
